N2  - Attention has already been directed in this journal1 to current studies on the presence of typhoid bacilli in the urine in typhoid fever. It has been shown that the bacilli may persist in the urine during and long after convalescence, and that the danger of infection from this source demands serious consideration. It is probably true that up to the present time this source of infection has been completely overlooked, and that the systematic disinfection of the urine in typhoid fever has never been carried out. The observations bearing on this phase of typhoid fever appear to be rapidly multiplying.In the Johns Hopkins Hospital Bulletin for June, Gwyn summarizes the results obtained by the previous observers, as follows: In perhaps from 20 to 30 per cent, of all cases of typhoid fever, typhoid bacilli may be present in the urine at some time or other.
