Seabury Jones read a paper on Simple, Non-tubercular, Non-metastatic Abscess of the Lungs. This was a subject, he said, which had received but little attention. The affection, however, was comparatively rare, and Trousseau in the first twenty-five years of his hospital practice did not meet with a single case, though he afterwards reported two cases. Laennec met with only five cases in several hundred autopsies on those who had died of pneumonia. In 1848 Robert Graves reported six cases. When Dr. Jones encountered his first case, now nine years ago, he was unable to find any reference to the subject whatever in any of the text-books to which he had access.
