Professor Germain See prefers to the preparations made with the entire plant the active element of those plants, such as the alkaloids, the glucosides and the salts which are of a definite form and will always, in the same dose, produce identical effects. He therefore prefers strophanthin to strophanthus, and digitaline to digitalis, and as regards their action on the heart he showed that strophanthus determines only a feeble diuresis, and that it acts but little on the dyspnœa of affections of the heart.
