Additional matter has been introduced on some of the new methods for determining the functional activity of the gastro-intestinal tract, especially noticeable being the desmoid reaction of Sahli and the nucleus test of Schmidt. In the chapter on the blood, few insertions are found and, indeed, few were needed, as this section was exceptionally complete in the first edition. The discussion of the Spirochœta pallida is, perhaps, somewhat limited, although it is becoming more and more probable that this organism may be only incidentally associated with syphilis.
