Symptoms, consequences and diagnosis are next considered to the extent of 77 pages. The remainder of the volume, over 300 pages, is taken up with treatment. The exciting causes given have been pointed out many times—neglect of parental supervision, false modesty, abuse of purgative drugs, etc. Visceral ptosis is probably given too prominent a place in the etiology, and some aspects of the former seem entirely outside the scope of the work.Coming now to the treatment, while the routine use of drugs is not advised, yet, for those who prefer their use, an account of the various agents is followed by a rather lengthy selection of formulas.
