    Will Teach Tropical Medicine. 
    —The faculty of Oakland College of Medicine has instituted a chair of tropical medicine, the first occupant of which is Dr. Creighton Wellman.Hospital Notes. 
    —The San Jose General Hospital was formally opened to the public September 3.—Plans have been completed for the new St. Francis Hospital, San Francisco.The building, equipment and furniture will cost about $200,000, and will be under the direction of Drs. John Gallwey, Walter B. Coffey, Wallace I. Terry, John H. Graves and Malcolm O. Austin.New Medical Department Opens. 
    —A meeting of the assembly was held September 8, for the formal assimilation of Cooper Medical College. San Francisco, with Leland Stanford. Jr., University. The address of the occasion was delivered by Dr. Henry Asbury Christian, Dean of Harvard Medical School, on "A Career in Medicine and Present-Day Preparation for It." Dr. Henry Gibbon spoke on behalf of the corporation
