TY - JOUR T1 - A system of syphilis. in six volumes. Y1 - 1909/07/17 N1 - 10.1001/jama.1909.02550030061013 JO - Journal of the American Medical Association SP - 219 EP - 220 VL - LIII IS - 3 N2 - The volume before us is the first of a six-volume system devoted to the subject of syphilis. It is a large octavo of over 400 pages, so that the entire work will contain approximately 2,500 pages. The appearance of such a system is in itself noteworthy and represents an undertaking which on the face of it is commendable. It means, first, that there is behind it an understanding of the extent, as well as of the importance, of the subject of syphilis and, second, that there is a spirit in the enterprise that does not hesitate at a great undertaking. The work bids fair, judging from this volume and the list of contributions to future volumes, to be a monument to scientific enthusiasm and British scholarship. It is distinctly a British work; except Metchnikoff and Iwan Bloch, all of the contributors belong to the English school.
