TY - JOUR T1 - EXpression of intubation tube AU - Cooley TB Y1 - 1909/02/06 N1 - 10.1001/jama.1909.02540320062014 JO - Journal of the American Medical Association SP - 490 EP - 491 VL - LII IS - 6 N2 - To the Editor:  —I notice in The Journal, January 23, p. 314, a communication from Dr. Golden regarding the expression of O'Dwyer's tube. So far from being at all recent, this procedure lacks not very many years of being as old as intubation itself, and has, I think, been commonly used for the removal of the short French tubes. The longer and differently shaped O'Dwyer tube does not, however, lend itself so readily to the application of the method, and often requires the use of force which might result in traumatism of the larynx. The only serious case of "retention" of the tube with which I have had experience was probably the result of a demonstration of this process. I hope, therefore, that other operators will not be led by Dr. Golden's letter to try the method except in case of a real emergency.
