TY - JOUR T1 - INcorrect statement and reference. Y1 - 1996/02/21 N1 - 10.1001/jama.1996.03530310026027 JO - JAMA SP - 520 EP - 520 VL - 275 IS - 7 N2 - —In the Editorial entitled "Treatment of Nicotine Dependence: Is More Better?" published in the November 1, 1995, issue of The Journal (JAMA. 1995;274:1390-1391), a statement made in the text and the supporting reference were incorrect. On page 1390 the author mentions "preliminary results from the large European CEASE trial." This is incorrect. The Collaborative European Anti-Smoking Evaluation trial (CEASE) is ongoing; no preliminary analysis has been conducted and no preliminary results have been published. The study that the author cites as reference 10 is not part of the CEASE study. The sentence should read as follows: "In addition, preliminary results indicate that among heavy smokers, higher-dose patches are not more effective.10" The supporting reference should be the following: 10. Paoletti P, Fornai E, Maggiorelli F, et al. A double-blind clinical trial on smoking cessation using different doses of 16-hours transdermal nicotine patches after cotinine plasma values stratification.
