N2  - The American Heart Association and the American Red Cross used the findings from the 1985 National Conference on Standards and Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiac Care to establish their policy on the risk of infection during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training and rescue. Findings that support the safety of CPR training and rescue and appropriate risk reduction strategies are presented as an update to the 1985 article. The Emergency Cardiac Care Committee of the American Heart Association incorporated recent advisories from the Centers for Disease Control as well as other information into guidelines that augment earlier recommendations.(JAMA. 1989;262:2714-2715)
