    Inspired by the article "The Physician's Role in the Cost-Containment Problem" by Dresnick and colleagues (241:1606, 1979), data from a similar study are submitted. In February 1978, a questionnaire was sent, with a return envelope, to each of the 158 physicians on the staff or admitting lists of Emory University Hospital, Atlanta. Each recipient was asked to list the tests (and their charges) that were routinely part of the "admissions package" on his service. Reading and completing the form took approximately 60 s. Despite this, only 66 forms were returned.There are several points of interest:Although our questionnaire was shorter than that of Dresnick et al, our response rate (42%) was close to their 36% return from full-time faculty.Our response rates were similar for internal medicine (47%), surgery (49%), and other clinical services (45%).
