TY - JOUR T1 - THrombocytopenia found uncommonly during heparin therapy AU - Powers PJ, Cuthbert D, Hirsh J Y1 - 1979/06/01 N1 - 10.1001/jama.1979.03290480030018 JO - JAMA SP - 2396 EP - 2397 VL - 241 IS - 22 N2 - In a prospective study to determine the frequency of thrombocytopenia in patients treated with intravenous heparin sodium of porcine gut origin, only four of 120 patients with suspected venous thromboembolism showed a depression of the platelet count to below 150×109/L. In two of these patients, heparin was not considered to be the cause of thrombocytopenia because the platelet count, which fell transiently, rose again while heparin therapy was continued. These results indicate that thrombocytopenia is an uncommon complication of anticoagulant therapy with heparin derived from porcine gut mucosa.(JAMA 241:2396-2397, 1979) SN - 0098-7484 M3 - doi: 10.1001/jama.1979.03290480030018 UR - http://dx.doi.org/10.1001/jama.1979.03290480030018 ER -
