Her condition had been diagnosed as uterine leiomyosarcoma approximately one year before at the University of Pennsylvania. A total abdominal hysterectomy was performed, and the patient was relatively free of symptoms until approximately one month before admission. The admission chest roentgenogram was clearly abnormal with multiple nodules consistent with metastatic disease. Fiberoptic bronchoscopy was performed on the second hospital day, and bleeding polypoid lesions were noted in the superior segment of the right lower lobe and the lateral segment of the right middle lobe.
