N2  - Poly I:C Used To Stimulate Interferon In Man 
    The first clinical evidence of interferon stimulation and disease control in humans by poly I:C (polyinosinic-polycytidylic acid) was reported at the Third International Symposium on Medical and Applied Virology, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.Measurable serum titers were produced in two of four cancer patients given the drug intravenously in collaborative studies by investigators at the Sloan-Kettering Institute for Cancer Research, New York, and Merck & Company.A reduction in virus shedding was seen in healthy male volunteers given the drug intranasally and challenged with rhinovirus 13 in studies at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Bethesda, Md.Thus, another step has been taken in the clinical use of interferon stimulation as an anti-viral and perhaps anti-tumor control.
