The procedure is easy to execute, although the actual originator is unknown to me.A wedge of soft tissue is excised on the side of the toe, parallel to the nail. The wedge includes skin and underlying structures almost down to the bone. The resultant elliptical gap is sutured, and bringing these edges together draws the soft tissue abutting the nail away from it, eliminating the pressure on the nail, and allowing prompt healing. Thus the original area of the lesion, the nail, and the nail bed, are never molested.
