Macleod, et al rule out the possibility that pericardial fibrosis might be the result of stromal reaction to malignant cell implantation on the basis of autopsy findings which failed to reveal any malignant cells in the treated areas. With a tumor dose of 4,600 rads to the pericardium, the probability of encountering a surviving seminoma cell is practically nil, and the absence of these cells only proves that irradiation was effective in eradicating them. This, however, does not affect the validity of the other findings in this case which were of great interest and which emphasizes that mediastinal irradiation must be given expertly and judiciously.
