TY - JOUR T1 - SOlitary metastases AU - Whitley JE Y1 - 1969/03/03 N1 - 10.1001/jama.1969.03150220138043 JO - JAMA SP - 1722 EP - 1722 VL - 207 IS - 9 N2 - This brief, interesting text presents a useful pragmatic insight into the concept of solitary metastases. The authors' stated preoccupation is the curability of metastatic disease. The first and last chapters are subtitled "Illusion Versus Reality." The intervening chapters are oriented about individual sites where metastases are commonly encountered, and there is a single chapter on "The Formation of a Metastasis." Each of the six site chapters is introduced with statistical information about metastasis to the organ, the clinical problems of diagnostic work-up and patient selection, treatment techniques and results, and the authors' own radiotherapeutic techniques and results. The formation of metastasis is considered from the theoretical basis of cause and mechanism as well as factors influencing growth. A brief sketch of animal and human data in this area is presented. Each chapter has numerous references (285 total) with publication dates which extend from 1888 to 1967.The principal audience for SN - 0098-7484 M3 - doi: 10.1001/jama.1969.03150220138043 UR - http://dx.doi.org/10.1001/jama.1969.03150220138043 ER -
