TY - JOUR T1 - MEthod of vaginal examination AU - Dirckx JH Y1 - 1969/02/24 N1 - 10.1001/jama.1969.03150210103023 JO - JAMA SP - 1519 EP - 1519 VL - 207 IS - 8 N2 - To the Editor:—  The purpose of this communication is to report what is believed to be a new method for more satisfactory examination of the vagina in certain special circumstances.Technique:—  The distal end of a sigmoidoscope, with obturator removed, is placed inside an 8-inch transparent plastic sandwich bag (previously immersed in a "catheter solution"), and the neck of the bag is gathered around the instrument and firmly secured with a rubber band about an inch from the distal end. The portion of the bag projecting beyond the end is temporarily tucked inside, and the instrument is lightly lubricated and inserted into the vagina so that the rubber band lies at the hymenal ring. The insufflator is now used to inflate the bag within the vagina.
