TY - JOUR T1 - PRoblems in hysterosalpingography AU - Dufresne MR, Gérin-Lajoie L, Maltais R Y1 - 1959/07/04 N1 - 10.1001/jama.1959.03010100031010 JO - Journal of the American Medical Association SP - 1169 EP - 1171 VL - 170 IS - 10 N2 - The diagnostic usefulness of hysterosalpingography was tested in a critical study of 395 cases. In each case the joint report of the radiologist and the gynecologist who carried out the examination was compared with subsequent findings of pathologists, specimens being obtained at operation in 486 cases. The reliability of the roentgenographic diagnosis depended much on the condition. The presence or absence of congenital anomalies was correctly reported in every instance, but the diagnosis of endocervicitis based on hysterosalpingography was substantiated in only 10% of the cases. Hysterosalpingography in this series was without value in endocervicitis and endometritis. It was somewhat more reliable in polyposis of the uterine cavity, ovarian cyst, endocervical polyp, fibromyoma, and ectopic pregnancy and most reliable in cases of congenital anomaly, carcinoma corporis uteri, and salpingitis.
