N2  - The title of this volume gives an accurate description of its content, since the author has succeeded in making this book on microscopes practical from the standpoint of both the proper use of the various instruments on the market and their limitations. Constructive criticisms of instruments and their limitations is desirable in any publication describing different types of equipment, provided it is done impartially and adequately. The author has organized the book to start with the simple and proceed to the complex aspects of the subject so that it may be of value to the beginner as well as to the more advanced reader.
