TY - JOUR T1 - THe british encylopaedia of medical practice including medicine, surgery, obstetrics, gynaecology and other special subjects Y1 - 1939/05/27 N1 - 10.1001/jama.1939.02800210094036 JO - Journal of the American Medical Association SP - 2200 EP - 2200 VL - 112 IS - 21 N2 - This volume covers such important topics as poliomyelitis, postmortem examinations, pregnancy, diseases of the prostate, psychiatry and psychoanalysis, pyelitis, radiology, refraction, resuscitation and rheumatic infection. The consistency and uniformity of the discussions are amazing when one considers the vast scope of the encyclopedia. It is perhaps due to the general editorship of Sir Humphry Rolleston and the high order of the groups of consultants and associate editors that this result has been achieved. Unfortunately this volume suffers, as have other encyclopedias, from the fact that medical progress is now so rapid that some of the material is well nigh obsolete by the time it is published. Thus the article on poliomyelitis makes no reference whatever to the recent attempts to block the path of entry by caustic solutions, nor is there any reference in the article on psoriasis to recent endeavors to control the condition by high doses of vitamin.
