    S. 1899 has passed the Senate, providing for the detail of a commissioned medical officer to serve as assistant to the Surgeon General of the United States Public Health Service. S. 1582 has passed the Senate, proposing to authorize the President to bestow a Meritorious Service Medal on any civil officer or employee of the United States, including commissioned officers of the Public Health Service, for the performance of an outstanding act or service involving great physical bravery or heroism, or for the performance of a service to the government or to humanity characterized by exceptional merit and involving a high degree of labor or effort above and beyond the ordinary and usual requirements of his office.Bills Introduced.—
