May 9 the swelling of the eyes and a facial rash appeared and the following day vomiting and fever. May 11 the rash was fading but a sore throat and some dyspnea developed. She was admitted to Willard Parker Hospital May 12, appearing acutely ill, with an elevation of temperature to 104.2 F., an increased respiratory rate and a faint maculopapular rash on the face and thighs, with macular staining behind the ears. The ear drums were normal, the conjunctivas slightly reddened and the eyelids swollen. The tonsils were large and moderately congested; there were no Koplik spots.
