N2  - The author of this small book became interested in zinc ionization shortly before World War I. As a result of his enthusiasm the procedure has had a degree of popularity in England, especially in school clinics, for the treatment of chronic otorrhea. The section dealing with the clinical application of zinc ionization and zinc electrolysis in chronic otorrhea describes Dr. Friel's experiences with tympanic sepsis, tympanic sepsis with granulations and polypi, attic and mastoid disease and external otitis.A discussion of the procedure in hay fever and vasomotor rhinitis, a subject which intrigued some American rhinologists in the middle 1930's, occupies but two paragraphs. The third, and final, chapter briefly describes zinc electrolysis with special reference for destroying tissue in the nose and throat, as in the treatment of turgescence of the inferior and middle turbinates and the destruction of tonsils in adults.
