The physician who was faced with an infectious disease in which antibiotic systemic therapy was indicated administered either penicillin or streptomycin or both, and that was that. During the past year this relatively happy state of affairs has been rudely interrupted by the appearance of aureomycin and chloramphenicol (chloromycetin®), two antibiotics which possess wide and effective ranges of action.
