According to the commonwealth statistician, the birth rate for 1928 was 21.33 per thousand of mean population. This shows a reduction of 0.34 per thousand when compared with the figure for 1927. The death rate for 1928 was 9.45 per thousand, being identical with that recorded for 1927.Uniform Registration of Medical Practitioners  The federal health council is seeking to have the powers of registration of medical practitioners transferred from the control of the states to that of the commonwealth. It is proposed to have a commonwealth registration board for medical practitioners, dentists, nurses and midwives. So far, four of the states have assented to the proposal, but the remaining two are not in favor.
