    —The communication of Dr. John B. Donaldson (The Journal, Dec. 15, 1928, p. 1912) commenting on my article entitled "Leiomyosarcoma of the Uterus" (The Journal, Nov. 17, 1928, p. 1532) implies that it was my evident purpose to belittle the pathologist. Such is not the case. Malignant transformations in uterine fibromyomatous tumors have been the subject of many comprehensive discussions and publications emanating from the laboratories of distinguished pathologists in the past, and I referred to several. I am confident that Dr. Donaldson will agree that there is no unanimity of opinion among these pathologists, and that it is likely that two or more pathologists will fail to concur concerning the malignant potentialities of certain tumors. If the pathologists do not agree, on what basis can the pelvic surgeon exercise his surgical judgment? Gynecologists are familiar with the similarity of the physical characteristics of harmless degenerating processes
