N2  - —In the article by Dr. Simon Flexner on this subject (The Journal, July 7, p. 21), it is stated under the subheading "Epidemic Encephalitis," page 27, that streptococci and certain other micro-organisms that appear in cultures either originate in the components of the culture medium or arise from air contamination. Dr. Flexner writes that Drs. Olitsky and Long, who have studied this problem closely at the Rockefeller Institute, have become convinced that the organisms are air contaminants introduced during the manipulation of the tissues subjected to culture.
