N2  - Morquio discusses the gastro-intestinal disturbances of infants, which he considers are a medical and social question of importance, not only on account of their undue prevalence but also because they can be prevented. He bases his statement on twenty-five years of experience, both in private practice and in teaching the subject at the University of Montevideo. His book has naturally been prepared to meet the special needs of Uruguay, using for purposes of comparison the data from other countries. The book, from that standpoint, is rather exhaustive as Morquio has attempted to review in various chapters the data that exist in foreign literatures. Naturally he places particular stress on the importance of breast feeding, and incidentally lays stress on the protection of the mother, which he considers of great importance for the child, quoting in this respect Pinard's phrase: "Il faut d'abord, et ensuite et toujours protéger la mére" (the
