To the Editor: In his Commentary on patient-physician decision making, Dr Kon1 included a Figure in which some decisions are wholly in the authority of the physician, although his narrative did not discuss these sorts of decisions. Many clinical decisions, even ones that are not fully value-neutral, are in the domain of the physician. Physicians are entrusted by society to make these decisions with fairness, fidelity, and parsimony, through a publicly accountable process of education, training, and licensure.
