TY - JOUR T1 - SUrgical care improvement project adherence and postoperative infections AU - Gold JA Y1 - 2010/10/20 N1 - 10.1001/jama.2010.1460 JO - JAMA SP - 1669 EP - 1672 VL - 304 IS - 15 N2 - To the Editor: Conclusions drawn in the study by Dr Stulberg and colleagues1 may mislead practitioners into thinking that the SCIP recommendations lack an adequate evidence base. The study was unable to show statistically significant improvements in outcomes for the individual SCIP measures or for a composite of 3 of them, but was able to show such outcome improvements for the composite of all SCIP measures. Although the authors acknowledged that their study “does suggest that some association between SCIP adherence and quality exists,” they concluded that they had failed to prove that “reported adherence on these measures is directly related to improved outcomes.” SN - 0098-7484 M3 - doi: 10.1001/jama.2010.1460 UR - http://dx.doi.org/10.1001/jama.2010.1460 ER -
