The Research Match registry (http://www.researchmatch.org) allows individuals who are interested in volunteering for clinical research on any disease to register in the system. Qualified researchers can then use the registry to search for individuals who meet a study's requirements, but will not be able to see or access a patient's identifying information or contact information. The system will send a notice to the volunteer that he or she may be a match for a particular study, and offer the person the option of releasing contact information to the recruiter. Individuals can also volunteer for trials of interest they identify through the NIH's clinical trial registry (http://www.clinicaltrials.gov).
