The units operate at 33 military installations in the United States as well as 3 locations in Germany. Each service member requiring care through these units is assigned to a team comprising a primary care manager, a nurse case manager who coordinates and monitors the care, and a squad leader who ensures the patient attends medical and administrative appointments.
