This 2008 update of the previous book contains 9 new chapters as well as updates on basic stem cell biology, immunobiology, histocompatibility, transplantation for myelodysplasia and myeloproliferative syndrome, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, bone marrow failure syndromes and hemoglobinopathies, conditioning regimens, and the regenerative potential of stem cells. Soiffer is a well-esteemed transplant physician and researcher from the Dana Farber Institute. The 29 chapters are authored by 50 researchers, 10 of whom are also at the Dana Farber Institute; a majority of the other authors are from the United States, but some are from the United Kingdom, Austria, and Belgium. Although pediatrics issues are covered, there is an emphasis on the adult experience in stem cell transplantation.
