To assess the relative risks of atypical and typical antipsychotic drugs, scientists conducted a retrospective cohort study of Medicaid users in Tennessee (Ray WA et al. N Engl J Med. 2009;360[3]:225-235). The study included more than 44 000 users of typical antipsychotics, more than 46 000 users of atypical antipsychotics, and 186 000 matched controls.
