One possibility is the preferential use of hyperoncotic 20% albumin as the colloid. In a meta-analysis of randomized trials, hyperoncotic albumin significantly decreased acute kidney injury (OR, 0.24) and mortality (OR, 0.52).2 The strength of the association with acute kidney injury suggests that hyperoncotic albumin use may explain the improved renal outcomes observed by Yunos et al.1
