TY - JOUR T1 - EXercise for overweight children and diabetes risk AU - Short KR Y1 - 2013/01/09 N1 - 10.1001/jama.2012.148056 JO - JAMA SP - 133 EP - 134 VL - 309 IS - 2 N2 - To the Editor: Dr Davis and colleagues1 reported that a 13-week after-school exercise program for overweight children resulted in significant reduction in diabetes risk, as measured by decreased fasting insulin, insulin response to oral glucose, and body mass index z score, and increased aerobic fitness. The approach used (ie, moderate intensity group sessions with a variety of games and activities for 20-40 minutes) could readily be adapted in other communities at relatively modest cost. This study therefore provides encouragement for promoting exercise in sedentary youth. SN - 0098-7484 M3 - doi: 10.1001/jama.2012.148056 UR - http://dx.doi.org/10.1001/jama.2012.148056 ER -
