TY - JOUR T1 - BRazil slashes smoking rates AU - Friedrich MJ Y1 - 2012/12/19 N1 - 10.1001/jama.2012.128616 JO - JAMA SP - 2449 EP - 2449 VL - 308 IS - 23 N2 - Using a computational simulation model called SimSmoke, investigators estimated the effect of tobacco control policies (such as a cigarette-specific tax introduced in 1990) on smoking prevalence and smoking attributable deaths. Between 1989 and 2010, there was a 46% decrease in smoking, and the model estimated almost half this reduction resulted from increasing the price of cigarettes.
