TY - JOUR T1 - Neuroapps: Mri atlas of human white matter AU - Thomas OM, Bahaei N Y1 - 2012/12/05 N1 - 10.1001/jama.308.21.2280 JO - JAMA SP - 2280 EP - 2281 VL - 308 IS - 21 N2 - The tangle of nerve fiber bundles that make up human white matter presents a considerable challenge to the uninitiated student of neuroanatomy. These tracts assume highly contorted configurations, and trying to understand the 3-dimensional relationships between the many white matter tracts and other structures can be an onerous task. Conventional paper-based atlases have to make compromises in displaying what is inherently 3-dimensional data in a 2-dimensional format, in which following a single tract could require much cross-referencing and substantial page-turning. Electronic atlases offer the possibility of a much more flexible and interactive approach. In this spirit, the authors of a well-respected, paper-based white matter atlas have converted their work into an iPad app, NeuroApps: MRI Atlas of Human White Matter.
