Insel, MD, and acting deputy director Kathy Hudson, PhD, until a permanent director is selected, according to an announcement from NIH. Most of the budget for the new center comes from the closure of the National Center for Research Resources (NCRR) and other programs housed in NIH. Key initiatives of the new center include an effort to identify and fill treatment gaps, Clinical and Translational Science Awards, the Cures Acceleration Network, a Food and Drug Administration–NIH interagency partnership to accelerate the development and evaluation of therapies, and programs to study and develop therapies for rare diseases.
