TY - JOUR T1 - COmplementary health practices AU - Briggs JP, Killen J Y1 - 2012/08/01 N1 - 10.1001/jama.2012.8161 JO - JAMA SP - 452 EP - 453 VL - 308 IS - 5 N2 - To the Editor: In his Viewpoint,1 Dr Offit presented a critique of the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM). The Center leads the National Institutes of Health's effort to determine whether complementary health practices are valuable and safe. Offit's analysis of NCCAM is flawed and shows no evidence he is aware of the current research portfolio, priorities, or approaches to conducting objective, rigorous research on scientifically plausible interventions addressing important real-world problems. These are all described in detail in the latest strategic plan,2 across the website, and reflected in the initiatives and grants now being funded.
