Dr Gaby raises an interesting hypothesis about the interaction between α- and γ-tocopherol, which the SELECT authors hope to address using the biorepository of plasma samples by measuring levels of the different forms of vitamin E at baseline and after intervention in a subset of participants. Dr Hoskote and colleagues hypothesize that the placebo used in SELECT may protect against prostate cancer. The vitamin E placebo used was composed of soybean oil, predominantly polyunsaturated fatty acids. To my knowledge, the effect of soybean oil on risk of prostate cancer has never been tested in humans. SN - 0098-7484 M3 - doi: 10.1001/jama.2012.56 UR - http://dx.doi.org/10.1001/jama.2012.56 ER -
