But some researchers have questioned whether this is necessary. To find out, a team of researchers conducted a multicenter clinical trial comparing outcomes of 630 women who were randomized to undergo either urodynamic testing or only an office evaluation before surgery (Nager CW et al. N Engl J Med. doi: 10.1056/NEJMoa1113595 [published online May 2, 2012]). There were no significant differences in outcomes, with about 77% of women in each group having a successful result.
