They had 266 cases of paralysis, sixty-two abortive cases and 129 suspects. No epidemics had occurred in this area previous to 1935. Jönsson considers that the maximum of dissemination of poliomyelitis lies between the maximum of the intestinal diseases typhoid and dysentery on the one hand and contact diseases such as diphtheria and scarlet fever on the other hand. It was found that the disease did not follow the waterways but was most common in areas with the most crowded population.
