TY - JOUR T1 - Central pain syndrome: Pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management AU - Nampiaparampil DE Y1 - 2012/03/14 N1 - 10.1001/jama.2012.273 JO - JAMA SP - 1087 EP - 1088 VL - 307 IS - 10 N2 - Central Pain Syndrome encompasses 26 chapters grouped into 4 sections: “Introduction,” “Clinical Features and Diagnosis,” “Treatment,” and “Pathophysiology.” The last section, perhaps the most interesting, discusses cases in which central pain syndromes have spontaneously resolved. The chapter on imaging provides an excellent synthesis of studies on central pain that have used single-photon–emission computed tomography, positron-emission tomography, and magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The chapter covering the attractor-dynamic-reverberation theory is fascinating, as is the appendix, “Erroneous Theories of Central Pain.” SN - 0098-7484 M3 - doi: 10.1001/jama.2012.273 UR - http://dx.doi.org/10.1001/jama.2012.273 ER -
