To the Editor.—As a physician formerly practicing in Canada and now in the United States, I have the privilege of seeing both systems that were described in the comparison of hospital services by Dr Bell and colleagues.1 In the accompanying commentary, Ms Rice2 stated that "paying out-of-pocket for most health care [in Canada] is not necessary and is relatively uncommon, and the majority of Canadians are willing to wait for most medical services." However, this statement may be misinterpreted.
