To the Editor: Purple urine bag syndrome (PUBS) is a unique phenomenon mostly seen in patients with dementia, and in 1 report, 27% of the elderly patients in a geriatric hospital who required urinary catheterization for a long period developed PUBS.1 Thus, it is not rare for geriatric clinicians to encounter PUBS, and confirming the management of this phenomenon is important. Drs Ben-Cherit and Munter2 presented a case of PUBS in which urine culture was ordered and replacement of the catheter was recommended.
