TY - JOUR T1 - PUrple urine bag syndrome AU - Ga H, Kojima T Y1 - 2012/05/09 N1 - 10.1001/jama.2012.3540 JO - JAMA SP - 1912 EP - 1913 VL - 307 IS - 18 N2 - To the Editor: Purple urine bag syndrome (PUBS) is a unique phenomenon mostly seen in patients with dementia, and in 1 report, 27% of the elderly patients in a geriatric hospital who required urinary catheterization for a long period developed PUBS.1 Thus, it is not rare for geriatric clinicians to encounter PUBS, and confirming the management of this phenomenon is important. Drs Ben-Cherit and Munter2 presented a case of PUBS in which urine culture was ordered and replacement of the catheter was recommended.
