TY - JOUR T1 - INternational variation in readmission after myocardial infarction—reply AU - Kociol RD, Lopes RD, Patel MR Y1 - 2012/04/25 N1 - 10.1001/jama.2012.531 JO - JAMA SP - 1690 EP - 1691 VL - 307 IS - 16 N2 - In Reply: The main objective of our study was to identify predictors of 30-day readmission among US patients vs those in other countries with lower readmission rates. Although country-level length of stay was an important predictor, we disagree with Dr Andraws that US patients might be receiving suboptimal treatment. By being aware that shorter length of stay may be associated with readmission among some patients, physicians can implement improved patient education and transitional care processes and better identify those higher-risk patients that may benefit from longer hospitalization.
