In the report, released January 31, the GAO indicated that the FDA is required to identify breakpoints, periodically update them, and make them publicly available. In 2008, the FDA asked sponsors of 210 reference-listed antibiotics (approved drugs to which generic versions are compared) to assess whether the breakpoints on their labels were accurate. As of November 2011, the FDA could not confirm whether the labels of 146 of these antibiotics were up-to-date (http://tinyurl.com/88kbz38).
