TY - JOUR T1 - DIagnosis and management of adult congenital heart disease AU - Reddy S Y1 - 2012/02/08 N1 - 10.1001/jama.2012.105 JO - JAMA SP - 618 EP - 619 VL - 307 IS - 6 N2 - The book is organized into 11 sections. The first, “General Principles,” includes an array of topics organized into chapters pertinent to this population. The chapters covering cardiac morphology and nomenclature, clinical evaluation, diagnostic testing, pregnancy, and transition of care are well written and feature an easy flow of information. The accompanying images, tables, and highlighted boxes are exceedingly helpful in presenting such information. However, the chapters covering critical care, late repair, and reoperations are superficial, and the chapters on electrophysiological testing and arrhythmias are vague and repetitive and make no mention of medical management. Additionally, the chapters on the venous shunts and Fontan circulation (with revision) emphasize operative techniques with a bias toward the experience of a single center and therefore, are at discord with the international approach of the book. The chapter on resynchronization therapy is novel to this book; however, use of this modality in current clinical practice is limited.
